Answers to common questions about F3 Workout Timer
What is F3 Workout Timer?
F3 Workout Timer is a free workout timer built for F3-style group fitness workouts. Mark who posted and it calls out PAX by name with personalized smack talk, keeps every synced phone on the same clock, and runs any format your Q wants — Tabata, EMOM, AMRAP, ladders, Dora, Mary, and more. No login is required for normal use.
How do I set up and start a workout?
Choose your region and AO, then mark who posted on the roster (tap any name to check them in, or add a visiting PAX who isn't on the list). Pick a format — Stations, Interval, Simple, or Count Up — dial in the work, rest, and rounds, then tap Continue. On the Ready screen, tap GO to start the clock.
What timer formats are supported?
Four modes cover any format you Q:
- Stations — rotating work/rest stations with a spoken round callout at each rotation.
- Interval — precise work/rest intervals down to the second, fixed count or unlimited — good for Tabata, EMOM, and AMRAP-style workouts.
- Simple — a single countdown with no stations or rest, for one continuous block of work.
- Count Up — an open-ended, count-up clock with no rounds or rest, for Mary, Dora, or anything untimed.
How does it call PAX out by name?
Once you've marked who posted, the timer runs personalized smack talk during work phases using real F3 names from your roster — out loud, mid-round. It's funny even when you're the one getting called out.
Can I mute the callouts or change how often they fire?
Yes. Open the timer menu (the ⋮ icon on the run screen) to set smack-talk frequency to low, medium, or high, or mute callouts altogether. Muting only silences the smack talk — programmed cues like the 3-2-1 get-ready count, rotation beeps, and the final-10 countdown keep playing.
How do I change the callout voice?
The voice you hear during callouts is your phone's own text-to-speech voice — F3 Workout Timer doesn't ship its own. Change it once in your phone's settings and every callout after that uses it.
iPhone / iPad
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content (called Read & Speak on some iOS versions) → Voices.
- Pick a language, tap Voice, and choose the one you want. Tap the play button to preview it, then tap the voice itself to select it — some voices need to download over Wi-Fi first.
Android
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Text-to-speech output (on some phones, including Samsung, this is under General management first).
- Tap the gear icon next to your preferred engine, then Language or Install voice data to choose a voice, dialect, or gender. Tap play to preview it.
Samsung Galaxy: starting with One UI 7/8 (Android 15+), Samsung limits its own text-to-speech engine to Samsung's own apps, so a voice picked under the Samsung engine won't be heard in F3 Workout Timer or any other third-party app. If changing your voice doesn't seem to do anything, go to Settings → General management → Text-to-speech output, switch Preferred engine from Samsung Text-to-Speech to Google, then pick your voice under the Google engine instead.
How do synced timers work?
Every phone in the workout runs the exact same clock, round, and callouts — no local network or Bluetooth needed, just an internet connection.
Starting a session (the Q)
- Set up the workout like normal and tap Continue to land on the Ready screen.
- Tap the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner, then tap Share / sync timer.
- A QR code and a 6-character join code show up, with a running count of how many phones have joined. Share whichever's easier — read the code out loud, or let PAX scan the QR.
- Tap Start Workout once everyone's in. That starts the clock for you and every joined phone at the same instant.
Joining a session (PAX)
- From the landing screen, tap Join Session.
- Scan the Q's QR code, or type in the 6-character code by hand.
- You'll sit in a waiting room until the Q taps Start — after that, the clock, rounds, and callouts run in lockstep with the Q's phone automatically. Nothing left to tap.
A phone doesn't need the app installed to join — scanning the QR code opens a synced view in the browser instead. Synced sessions automatically expire after 4 hours.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No. Starting and running timers, joining a synced session, and submitting feedback or smack talk all work without signing in. Signing in with Google or Apple is only needed for admin features — managing regions, rosters, and playlists for your area.
What are Tunes?
Tunes are region-specific music playlists other PAX actually run their beatdowns to. Browse the list from the drawer and steal one for yours. Admins in your region can add or edit playlists, optionally crediting the PAX who put it together.
How do I submit smack talk or feedback?
From the drawer, tap Smack Talk to suggest a heckle or motivation phrase, or Feedback to report a bug or request a feature. Both work whether you're signed in or not — just give it a name so we know who to credit (or blame).
How do I delete my account or data?
Visit the Account & Data Deletion page to submit a deletion request, or email us at 16648dev@gmail.com. We'll permanently remove your account and associated data. This action cannot be undone.
Is my data private?
Yes. We don't sell or share your personal data with third parties, and nothing leaves your phone unless you sign in for admin features or submit something yourself. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
